To the Editor: I have called the front desk to request a number of someone I could contact, but I was told to call back Monday through Friday, 9a.m. -5 p.m. The worker acknowledged that hundreds of students have been calling to complain about the lack of heat but stated that there was nothing that could be done. My resident adviser also called and was "promised" that the heat would be functioning shortly. This transpired eight hours ago. I do realize that it is the weekend and the full residential staff will not return until Monday, but I find the entire situation to be completely unnecessary. The new college house system promises undergraduate support in many forms, but there is no one to call in case of an emergency. I found that out today when I endeavored to ask about the possibility of heat. It is 50 degrees outside. I am wearing several layers of clothing in a vain effort to remain warm. My roommate is wearing a hat and gloves. This is simply ludicrous. I do not think it is too much to ask that I be provided with heat when the temperatures drop -- be it Monday or Sunday. I signed a contract with Residential Life. I have paid a considerable amount of money to live here. Is it too much to ask for Penn to keep up its part of the bargain? Megan Turner College '99
