The Penn women's softball team entered this weekend's road trip at Brown and Yale still looking for their first run of the season in Ivy League play. While they did manage to score, the Quakers' offense was held to only one run in each game. Brown swept the Quakers (10-25, 0-8 Ivy League) Saturday afternoon, 9-1 and 5-1, to even their Ivy record at 3-3. Penn traveled to Yale (20-20, 5-3) yesterday, where the Elis swept them 7-1 and 8-1. The weekend's results kept the Quakers winless in Ivy League play with only four games remaining in their season. Consistent with the entire season, Penn's hurlers pitched respectably, but not well enough to overcome the lack of offense. This weekend's losses were especially disappointing because the Quakers felt they had a chance to beat both of their opponents. The first game against Brown set the tone for the weekend, as Bears' freshman pitcher Tami Parrott gave up one unearned run on two hits through five innings. In the second game, Brown's Kelly Malloy pitched a complete game. Penn sophomore Suzanne Arbogast was the loser in both games. The Quakers managed a lead in the opener against Yale, with tri-captain Lauren Mishner scoring in the second inning. But the Elis answered with three runs in the third to take control. Yale's Teri Hickey pitched a complete game and did not allow an earned run. The second game was basically decided in the first inning as the Elis rocked Penn freshman Lee Pepe for four runs. Pepe was relieved by Joy Silvern, who only allowed four more runs the rest of the way. But with the struggles of Penn's offense, the damage had already been done. The Yale losses were especially disappointing because the Elis were the victim in two of Penn's three Ivy League wins last season. Penn has now lost six games in a row, scoring one run in each of those six games.
