The BiCultural InterGreek Council elected the new board last night. Visibility, recruitment and academics are all on the agenda for the new BiCultural InterGreek Council Executive Board selected last night. College junior and Omega Phi Psi, Inc., brother Everett Sands, who was elected president, said the new board will work to restructure the BIG-C. "The BIG-C is going through a process of a facelift," Sands said, noting that changes in membership and advisors are improving the organization's image. The BIG-C, which has struggled with falling membership in recent years, faces the possible loss of two of its sorority chapters -- Zeta Phi Beta, Inc., and Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. -- if membership does not increase by the end of the spring term. Sands said the new board will focus their attention on recruitment. BIG-C members hope to increase its visibility by appearing to campus as "one structured community." College junior and Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc., brother Jonathan Carroll, elected as treasurer, said his organization must provide stronger representation for its chapters and highlight the benefits of BIG-C membership. "We need to show ourselves more on campus and make ourselves more visible," Carroll said. College senior and Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., sister Shelise Williams will serve as vice president this spring. Although Williams could not be reached last night, outgoing President Jason Rosas, a College senior and Lambda Upsilon Lambda, Inc., brother, said her "outspoken" nature will help the BIG-C forge a more "visible presence on campus." Sands said the new board will also continue BIG-C efforts to improve its academic standings. By building a support network within the umbrella organization, he said members will be able to help each other in their studies. The BIG-C also elected College junior and Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., sister Kaya Davis as corresponding secretary, Wharton sophomore and Lambda Upsilon Lambda, Inc., brother Ramon Marmolejos as recording secretary, and College sophomore and Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc., brother Richard Adzei as parliamentarian. Carroll said he hopes to see the new board operate as cohesively as the outgoing board, which worked together "without any opposition." "[The outgoing board members] were very driven," he said. "They were dedicated to making the BIG-C grow, and it's something that will be carried to the new board." Rosas said he is confident in the new board's abilities to continue the organization's current initiatives. "It's a great board -- extremely diverse, very enthusiastic and very committed to achieving our goals," Rosas said. "I'm sure they'll take the BIG-C very far next semester."
