For the superstitious, the number 13 rivals black cats and broken mirrors for its tendency toward bad luck. But The Daily Pennsylvanian's 113th Board of Managers and Editors -- which will formally take the helm tomorrow night at the paper's annual inaugural banquet -- plans to break that spell. Through a year of highs and lows for the University community -- from President Clinton's Hill Field address to the stabbing of a University researcher -- the 112th board strove to provide far-reaching, in-depth coverage. At the same time, the past year saw a new look for the DP after an innovative redesign that included full color. This year, incoming Executive Editor Eric Goldstein has big plans to move the paper forward in other areas as well. "Our main goal is to improve the coverage in our news department and sports department, getting at the major issues at the University," the Wharton junior said. "We want to put stories in the proper context and help students really get a feel for what's going on at Penn." The Sewickley Heights, Pa. native, who spent the past year guiding the DP's sports department as sports editor, will lead the 28-member board into a year promising to bring change to the West Philadelphia community. With plans ranging from new campus residences to a proposed 'urban park' on Sansom Street, the developments should keep the new editors on their toes. Goldstein will serve as president and CEO of the DP corporation and has final authority on all business and editorial decisions. At his right hand, College junior Mike Madden will lead the editorial board as managing editor. Madden, who hails from Rockville, Md., had his hands full this past year as the copy and associate editors. Heading up the new business board, Engineering sophomore Tagar Olson will be the youngest business manager in recent DP history. Olson served as credit manager on the 112th board.
