Two men crashed through the window of My Favorite Muffin early Saturday morning, ending a brawl that started on the dance floor of Smokey Joe's, according to an Engineering senior who was involved in the fight. The fight, which occurred at 2:30 a.m., involved about 10 people, said the student, who wished to remain anonymous. According to the University Police, one of the students involved in the fight was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with serious lacerations on his hand, forehead and face. Witnesses said blood was visible on the store window and the sidewalk, and a table was forced outside. A Wharton and College senior who was also thrown through the window said a police officer saw the entire fight and failed to offer any assistance. The officer, who was parked at the corner of 40th and Locust streets, witnessed the fight, and then drove away, he said. University Police Sgt. Keith Christian said that he had no knowledge of an officer watching the fight. The injured person, who was not a University student, told police that he was tackled by an unknown person. The Engineering senior said that the altercation began on the dance floor of Smoke's when a man unaffiliated with the University made advances toward the Wharton and College senior's sister. The Wharton and College senior said that he and his friend were sitting at a table when five LaSalle University alumni began "talking shit." "They just wanted to get into a fight," he said. The Wharton and College senior said that he and his friends then left Smoke's and began to walk home. They stopped to talk in front of My Favorite Muffin & Bagel Cafe, located south of Smoke's on 40th Street, when he saw the LaSalle alumni approaching. He said that he knew the men were looking for a fight because one began to take off his shirt. One of the Penn students was punched in the back of the head, the Engineering junior said. The Wharton and College senior said that he punched one of the LaSalle alumni, and they began to wrestle. "I knew that we were going to hit the window," he said. "But I had no idea we were going to go through it." The Wharton and College senior said his sister ran to get help from the bouncer at Smoke's, but he refused to come and help. Employees at Smoke's had no comment on the incident.
