When Homecoming rolls around, the University probably won't be the safest place for tigers, people with orange Ps on their hats, and folks who root for a certain Ivy League school in central New Jersey. The Sophomore Class Board will be doing its fair share to instill an anti-Princeton theme by organizing a "Tiger Death Fest" to be held on College Green before the Penn-Princeton football on November 6. "It's going to be a festive atmosphere," said Sophomore Class President Lenny Chang. "It'll be a good way for everyone to mingle before the game." As part of the "festive atmosphere," stuffed tigers with nooses around their necks will be available for the enjoyment of students, sold for the low price of $1. In addition, booths offering everything from pretzels and hot chocolate to face-painting will be set up. College sophomore Andra Fogel, the class's vice president, said the event will involve a variety of groups ranging from Amorphous Jugglers to the Penn Band. "We've been working in cooperation with everyone and everyone seems enthusiastic, so there's no reason it won't be a success," she said. Chang said the Death Fest will be a chance for students to have fun while getting together with their classmates, much along the lines of Skimmer Day, which will take place the day before. "What we're trying to do here is have a lot of fun as we try to start a new Penn tradition," he added. Fogel echoed Chang in saying the Death Fest could set the tone for years to come. "We're the first to spearhead a University-wide celebration in honor of Homecoming," she said. "It'll be a common ground for all Penn students."
