Comedian Wayne Cotter, a University alumnus, will headline the third-annual Stand-Up Against Homelessness to benefit Comic Relief and local homeless relief organizations. Cotter has made 10 appearances on the Tonight Show over the past two years and is currently the host of the Fox network's Comic Strip Live. While at the University, Cotter performed his comedy on and off campus. "We're very happy getting Wayne Cotter," event organizer and College senior Jason Adler said. "He's very excited to be coming back." The show, which is sponsored by Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity, Delta Delta Delta sorority and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity will be held on Thursday, April 1 in Irvine Auditorium. Past shows have featured Saturday Night Live and Comedy Channel cast members, including Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider. Over the last two years, the performances have raised about $30,000 for the homeless. "It's a great thing," Adler said. "It's fun to work on. We see homelessness every day and this is a good way to get people involved." The proceeds from last year's performance funded the salary of a nurse who performed health care services for the homeless on the streets. In 1991, the money raised by the show went to the Catin House in West Philadelphia -- a home for the treatment of single, drug addicted, homeless mothers and their young children. No decision has been made about who will receive this year's profits. Irvine Auditorium holds nearly 2,000 people, but organizers said they are not expecting a packed house. "We're shooting for about 800 people to show up," Adler said. Tickets will be on sale on Locust Walk today and every day until next week's show for $10 each.
