Russian delegates signed an agreement with the Engineering School last week to develop academic exchange programs between the University and the Moscow based K.E. Tsiolkovsky Technical University. The agreement was designed to encourage cooperative research, teaching and learning, and promote the exchange of ideas between the two schools. "It's a critical stage," Engineering Dean Gregory Farrington said. "We are determined to develop outstanding international plans for our students." The inter-school agreement will begin this summer when faculty and students will take part in a research exchange. The participants will also learn each other's language and culture. "We promise to do all we can for our part," said Vitali Manujiov, co-vice-rector of K.E. Tsiolkovsky Technical University. "We are ready to do everything for you." The Russian delegates said they were impressed with the University's campus, students, faculty and academic structure. Members of the delegation said they plan to organize seminars on the American educational system when they return to Russia. They said they will also be giving lectures on their experiences at the University and its academic system. The University's accomplishments will be discussed at a nationwide Russian science conference, according to Co-Vice-Rector Helen Germatskaya. Igor Gorodetsky, a professor at Moscow K.E. Tsiokovsky Technical University said that Russian engineers had not experimented in some fields yet. "Bioengineering does not exist in Russia," Gorodetsky said. "It's absolutely new." The delegates said that they enjoyed visiting Philadelphia because of its friendly and warm people, its food, its beautiful trees and its shopping.
