Armed man fights victim Two men were attacked by armed robbers in separate incidents early Tuesday night, University Police Lieutenant Jerry Leddy said yesterday. In the first incident, an armed man approached another man in the parking lot adjacent to the Roy Rogers restaurant at 39th and Chestnut streets and demanded money. The complainant, who is not affiliated with the University, refused to give his money to the six-foot tall assailant, and the two men became involved in a fist fight. UPPD Officer Gary Heller, who arrived on the scene shortly after the robbery, said the complainant is 5' 2" to 5' 3" tall. The robber pulled out a small snub-nosed revolver during the struggle and then stole the complainant's wallet and $20 in cash. The victim grabbed hold of his assailant's shoe as the robber was leaving. The robber abandoned his shoe and fled the scene. The victim described his attacker as a bearded black man with short hair who was last seen wearing dark pants, a dark brown jacket and one black shoe. An employee at the restaurant telephoned University Police to tell them about the struggle, but the robber was gone by the time UPPD Officers Heller and Andrew Malloy arrived on the scene. The men reportedly approached the man on the street and showed him the gun, demanding that he give them money. The HUP employee refused twice, and then the man holding the gun used it to hit the HUP employee on the head. The victim remained conscious but incurred a swollen bruise on his head. Still, he gave nothing to his assailants, who fled empty-handed. The victim described one of his attackers as a stocky dark-complected black man, 5' 9" tall. The man was last seen wearing dark jeans, a dark jacket and a dark ski cap. The HUP employee said his second assailant is a thin six-foot tall dark-complected black man, who was last seen wearing jeans and a red-checked flannel shirt.
