Even though Troy's went broke, there is still a big market out there for people who want to sell goods and services to University students. Some have estimated that University students contribute $50 million a year to the University City economy. Wouldn't it be great to see a new generation of student hangouts opening up on and near campus? Perhaps entrepreneurs could complement the existing pizza, beer and cheesesteak places with more coffeehouses and bookstores. It would be in the University's interest to offer discounted rent rates at University-owned commercial properties for such ventures. And surely Ivy League students would patronize shops and restaraunts with a little intellectual content to their offerings. We're putting out a call for coffeehouse capitalists to take up the slack left by the loss of Troy's.
