But when it comes to professor's paychecks, the administration better watch out. Two recent moves by the administration -- a refusal to reinstate pay raises given up by the faculty in response to proposed state budget cuts that never materialized, and a proposal to make faculty pay more for their health bills -- could wake the professors out of their stupor. A similar health care co-payment plan at Temple resulted in a strike by professors there. While co-payment could save money for other instructional uses, the administration must make sure to get plenty of faculty feedback on the proposal before actually putting it in to action. Otherwise, the sleeping professors might just wake up and start growling about the way the administration is running the University.
