A University Police employee who was convicted of stabbing a woman in May resigned from the force Sunday, Police Commissioner John Kuprevich said yesterday. 24-year-old Kim Wong had been an officer in the department prior to the incident, and was moved to a civilian dispatcher post early this month after officials found out about her felony conviction. Kuprevich said the policy procedure manual for the department will be amended to say that any officer who is arrested must let the department know of the pending charges. He said this has always been an implied part of department policy. Wong was sentenced to five years psychiatric probation after she pled guilty to aggravated assault, according to court records. The records state that on May 26, Wong stabbed a 20-year-old woman in "the left leg, left arm, and left side of the face with a knife." The victim received 16 stitches at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia and was released, the police report states. Wong had been an officer for two years with the department before Kuprevich received a letter from the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office on October 1 informing him of Wong's conviction. Kuprevich last week called his personnel action regarding Wong "appropriate." Kuprevich, who is bound by University personnel policies from discussing Wong's case, said last week he was unaware of Wong's arrest before October 1. The civilian dispatcher post Wong moved to earlier in the month consisted of answering 511 calls, dealing with other alarm calls and dispatching officers. Kuprevich said she had little contact with the public. Wong declined last week to comment on any aspect of her case and asked to not be called in the future.
