An overheated flourescent lightbulb in the women's bathroom on the second floor caused the problem. "The ballast that operates the flourescent light overheated," said Jim Miller, director of fire and occupational hazzards at the University. "It started to accumulate a little bit of smoke." Miller said the problem was minor and caused no damage. "We were going to have a meeting and there was this awful smell," said Assistant Nursing Professor Kathleen McCauley. "We looked into the ladies' room [and following a crash the] lights went out and smoke poured out. I then pulled the alarm," McCauley said. The alarm called Public Safety and the Philadelphia Fire Department, which sent three firetrucks. -- Heidi Gleit
