Undergraduate Assembly member Tobias Dengel resigned his seat last night, making UA deliberations about his status for the last three weeks moot. Dengel resigned from Czechoslovakia, where he is spending the semester, over the phone to UA Treasurer Jeff Lichtman. According to a statement Dengel dictated to Lichtman, he "decided that the needs of the Engineering School would not be best met by this arrangement because the Engineering students deserve one accessible representatives serving their interests the entire year." Dengel has been the topic of UA debate for the past three weeks because some members tried to have him kicked off the assembly to fill his spot with someone who will be on campus all year. But other UA members said Dengel should have been allowed to remain on the assembly since he will not miss many meetings between the time a new representative is elected and next semester. On Monday night, UA members voted to give Dengel a proxy vote through Engineering junior Eric Spence.
