Known for his committment to teaching, he once delivered lectures live to students at the University through a public address system when he was confined to his Bryn Mawr home by a leg injury. Burket was a faculty member for 40 years, and dean for over 20. He also received his undergraduate and dental science degrees from the University. Over his long globe-spanning career, he served in numerous national positions of authority, including as president of the American Association of Dental Schools and as director-at-large of the American Cancer Society. -- Michael Sirolly
