The Academy, situated on Broad and Cherry Streets in Center City, operates a school of fine arts and a museum featuring collections of the work of American artists. Although Annenberg is a collector of European art, Annenberg's wife and fellow trustee Leonore Annenberg served on the Academy's board of trustees for a decade from 1976 to 1986. With Annenberg's donation, the Academy has now amassed $11 million of its $15.2 million goal in its latest fund raising campaign, dubbed the Third Century Fund. Annenberg's donation, as well as all other funds raised, will help buy continued care for the Academy's collection of work by American artists. It will also cover costs of the renovation of staff areas in the museum, and purchase and renovation expenses of a new site at 1301 Cherry Street. The Academy's School of Fine Arts counts painter Mary Cassat and director David Lynch among its alumni. -- Michael Sirolly
