Students on the go, who do not have a lot of time to eat breakfast, no longer have to go to class hungry. Late last month, Dining Services reopened Bagels By the Bridge, a stand located next to the Class of 1920 Commons which sells breakfast foods. The stand, closed last year during renovations to the dining hall, offers coffee, tea, muffins, danish and bagels. Dining Services first opened Bagels By the Bridge three years ago after receiving a request from the Undergraduate Assembly to offer a quick and easy breakfast option for students not on meal plan. Dining Services Director William Canney said last week that the service is "geared towards students on the go." He said that he expects that due to its location, most of the patrons will be students living in the high rises who pass over the bridge on their way to class. Canney said that Dining Services offers Bagels By the Bridge more as a service for students rather than as a profit-making venture. When Bagels By the Bridge was open in the past, Dining Services broke even. Engineering senior and Dining Services worker Freddy Ochoa said that Bagels By the Bridge brings in about $30-$35 in sales on a daily basis. "It's a good deal for students on their way to class," he said. Canney added that business has been increasing each day. Bagels By the Bridge is staffed by Dining Services workers and is open Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Students who bought their breakfast from Bagels By the Bridge said that they are happy with the "convenient," service. College junior Chris Welbon said that he also likes Bagels By the Bridge because he does not have a lot of time for breakfast. "I like it," he said. "I don't often have time to stop off for breakfast. I'm probably going to use it again and I hope it keeps going." Sal Rifat, a Medical School fellow, said that he stops by every day to purchase coffee and a bagel on his way to work. "It's really nice, it's convenient, and I'm glad it's here," he said.
