Rosengarten head Ancil George said he discovered yesterday morning that the processing unit from one of Rosengarten's 20 Macintoshes had been stolen, noticing that the security cable around the computer had been cut. George said he reported the incident to University Police, who could not be reached for comment on the incident yesterday. The theft occurred despite the high security surrounding the computers. The Rosengarten computer room, which is open until 7 a.m. every night, is patrolled by a McGinn security guard from 11 p.m. until closing, and there is also a guard at Van Pelt's main door. In addition, people who want to use the computers after 11 p.m. must show a University identification and must sign in with a librarian. This is to ensure that only students, faculty and staff have access to the equipment at night. George said library officials do not plan to further restrict access to the computers, saying this would be a "horrible disservice to the students." -- Roxanne Patel
