Mayor Wilson Goode proclaimed April 4 Comic Relief/Stand-Up Against Homelessness Day Friday, in recognition of a fraternity-organized comedy show that will be held in Irvine Auditorium next week. Saturday Night Live's Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and Dave Spade and MTV's Colin Quinn will perform at the benefit concert to be held on April 4. Organizers from Kappa Alpha Psi and Tau Epsilon Phi fraternities said they hope the program will raise $40,000, which they will donate to Philadelphia Health Care for the Homeless. TEP brothers David Rubin, Rob Inerfeld and Neil Schur and KAPsi brothers Mark Wallace and Lerone Sidberry received the proclamation from the mayor Friday. In the proclamation, Goode asks community members to participate in the program, saying that the program concentrates on an issue which is of special concern to the city. "[I] urge all citizens to open their hearts and support the very worthwhile goals of Stand-up Against Homelessness to provide much needed programs to help our community's homeless," the statement reads. Schur said that the students presented the mayor with an official Comic Relief t-shirt, making him an honorary member of the "Stand-up team" and invited him to attend the performance. Schur and Rubin said yesterday they are pleased with the proclamation because it will lend credibility to the event. "It is an event of citywide significance," Schur said. "With the backing of the mayor it can reach new, greater heights." Schur said they hope to get a second copy of the proclamation and frame them so each fraternity can have one. Rubin said the fraternities planned from the beginning to try to gain city and University support of the endeavor. "[When you plan an event involving] a national organization, it helps when you have the entire city behind you," Rubin said. The event is being organized by members of the University's TEP chapter and the city-wide chapter of KAPsi, which includes houses at the University, Drexel and Villanova universities. The comedians will perform in Irvine Auditorium at 8 p.m. on April 4.
