The Glee Club's latest show, Step Right Up! The Great Carny Caper, opens tonight in the Zellerbach Theater, parodying the circus and inviting everyone to join the fun. The show, part of the Glee Club's 129th season, begins by announcing, "All the world's a carnival and [tonight] you'll see it in its most encapsulated form." The theme of the show is "the Bar-None and Barely Circus." The performance features a wide range of songs reflecting the Big Top theme. The 39 members of the all-male group incorporate everything from show tunes to classical renditions and rock songs in their performance. Songs range from classical pieces by Mozart and Handel to sing-alongs such as "Home on the Range," a French drinking song and All for the Best from the musical Godspell. The lead role of the ringmaster is played by College junior Jeffrey Coon. This is his third year playing the lead, which Williams calls "unprecedented." His sidekick is the character Doodlesock, played by College freshman Tom McManus, who "learned the role in one week" after another Glee club member had to leave the show, Williams said. Tickets for Step Right Up! The Great Carny Caper will be on sale for $6 on Locust Walk through Friday. The show will play tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday at 8 p.m.
