Ertl has started using the two-year $186,000 grant since January 1 for her project entitled, "Long-term Impairment of Immune Responses Induced by Maternal Antibodies." Ertl said the research will explore the effects that antibodies from the mother have on the immune system of the child after birth. The research will use pregnant dogs to investigate the effects a rabies vaccine has on the unborn pups. -- Melissa Fragnito
