1990 Wharton graduate Andrew Stern won first place in the Creative Non-Fiction category for his essay "Catechism (Impersonal)?" while 1990 Wharton graduate Mike Finkel garnered top honors in the Informal Personal Essay category for his essay, "Wet Behind the Ears," which later appeared in The New York Times Magazine. In critical reading categories, 1990 College graduate Javier Bleichmar won first place for his paper "A Critique of Hegel's Conception of Freedom," in the philosophy text category; 1989 College graduate Carolyn Wennblom won for her paper on Mark Twain in the literary text category; and College junior Abby Mink won for her essay "The Actress" in the art history text category. In the Humanities category, College junior Kathleen Jayes won first place for her paper, "Staving off the Landless Monster: The Southern Distortion of Private Property." 1990 Nursing graduate Sandra Rosen won in the Social Science Category for her paper, "Stillbirth: What the Nurse Should and Should not do."
