The $1.7 million laboratory will use space that was "under-utilized," and remodeled for research use, according to Engineering Associate Director of Development Dennis Brown. The new laboratory features a new mezzanine floor which will effectively double the amount of usable work space. While the lower level of the facility will house an undergraduate teaching laboratory, the upper floor will be used for faculty and graduate student research in chemical engineering. Brown called the effort, "a new approach for combining undergraduate and graduate research" which will allow undergraduates to see and participate in the research being done by professors in the school. The 40 minute-long ceremony, which starts at 5:45 p.m., will feature Engineering Dean Gregory Farrington, Provost Michael Aiken, faculty and alumni of the school and representatives from some of the corporations and individuals who funded the laboratory. -- Drew Zoller
