College freshman Jennifer Berrent -- who attended the conference last year -- described the students as "the movers and shakers of tomorrow," adding that they will create theoretical businesses and attempt to sell their ideas to potential investors. According to organizers, the main purpose of the conference, is to foster young entrepreneurial talent through speeches and workshops. According to conference director Brian Butler, many attend the conference in hope of increasing their chances of admission to the University. Students are broken up into groups of eight and assigned cohort advisors who are undergraduates at the University. These advisors assist the groups with the development and implementation of their ideas. Head Cohort Advisor Kevin Wong stressed that it was their role to guide the students both socially and academically throughout the four-day period. Organized by Wharton undergraduates, EntreCon provides the opportunity for students with aspirations to attend the University to get sampling of life on campus. Exposure to University life includes campus tours, entertainment by Pennsylvania 6-5000 and Without a Net, a trip to South Street, and two meals at Stouffer Dining Commons. Speakers at the conference include several entrepreneurs, Wharton professors, Admissions Dean Willis Stetson, and Wharton Dean Thomas Gerrity. Each will speak on a different business-related topic, drawing from personal expereinces and insight. -- Stacey Wolfe
