"I'm here for solidarity in response to oppressed Russian Jewry," said Wharton junior Victor Miller. "I'm also here for a little exercise." While running, students exchanged smiles and conversation, but the event had a more somber tone as several speakers described the situation for Jews throughout the world. College junior Rinny Karlin, co-organizer of the run, said she hoped the event would raise consciousness of the plight of hundreds of thousands of Jews worldwide, many of whom are unable to leave their countries or practice their religion. The run was sponsored by Penn Student Action for Ethiopian Jews, Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry, and the Hillel Foundation. The funds raised go to help Soviet Jews, and also to one woman in Ethiopia "adopted" by the run. -- James Kim
