Penn honored nine distinguished alumni and faculty at the annual Alumni Award of Merit Gala on Nov. 3.

The Alumni Award Merit Gala celebrates the achievements and commitment of alumni to the University and the Penn community. Chosen by the Awards and Resolutions Committee of the Penn Alumni Board of Directors, these honors will be presented by 1989 Engineering graduate and President of the Alumni Board Michael Barrett as part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities.

Among the honorees, Ali Shapiro Cudby, a 1991 College and 1997 Wharton MBA graduate, was recognized for her leadership and support of Penn’s libraries, advocacy for women, and involvement in the University. 1974 Wharton graduate Richard David Feintuch, an accomplished legal professional and advocate for performing arts, was honored for his leadership and philanthropy at Penn Live Arts.

Another Award of Merit was dedicated to 1978 College graduate Stanley Greene, a former Penn Athlete who continues to support Penn basketball for nearly a decade on the Basketball Sport Board and for almost five years as co-chair of the Basketball Alumni Relations Committee. 1974 College graduate Ann Nolan Reese is a finance executive and co-founder of the Center for Adoption Policy and was honored for her contribution to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Katherine Sachs, a 1969 College graduate, is the 2023 Creative Spirit Award recipient. After a successful career as an adjunct curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, she has been a prominent donor to the PMA’s contemporary art collection, serving on the Board of Trustees and as chair of the Institute of Contemporary Art Board of Advisors.

The Walter H. and Leonore C. Annenberg Professor Camille Zubrinsky Charles won this year’s Faculty Award of Merit. She has contributed research on urban inequality and racial attitudes to the Department of Sociology, Graduate School of Education, and the Center for Africana Studies, of which she is the director.

1987 Wharton graduate Judith Browne Dianis received the inaugural Penn Alumni Social Impact Award for her efforts combating structural racism in her career as a civil rights lawyer and voting rights expert.

The Class of 1993 received the annual Class Award of Merit, and the Class of 1968 was honored with the David N. Tyre Award for Excellence in Class Communications. Several regional clubs were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Penn community.
