W. Rowing | Lane gets revenge for recruit thievery

Since Ivy League student-athletes are not given scholarships, the women's rowing team's edging out of Duke, Iowa and Miami at the Rivanna Romp in Charlottesville, Va., was that much sweeter for coach Michael Lane. Penn was the only non-scholarship school in the race.

Men's Lightweight Rowing | Penn hopes to Engineer a win

The men's lightweight rowing season is one filled with familiar races and familiar faces: the Navy Day Regatta, the Head of the Charles, the Princeton Chase, the Callow Cup - all year-in, year-out events. But this season brings a less familiar foe to the water: the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Heavy Rowing | Adams cup, Burk Cup | 14 seconds out? Good enough for Honebein

Amid such a trying season, the men's heavyweight rowing team is looking past its competition against other teams and instead focusing on personal improvement. And after losing to top teams like Harvard, Navy and Northeastern in the Adams and Burk Cups, that attitude has never been more crucial to the development of the program.

Heavyweight Rowing | Adams Cup, Burk Cup | Busy weekend, with two Schuylkill showdowns

Tomorrow's race is named after Charles Francis Adams, Secretary of the Navy during the Herbert Hoover administration. But it's Harvard -- not Navy - that has dominated the Adams Cup, taking home the trophy each of the last seven years. Rowing rivalry brewing as Red and Blue get better of St. Joe's

Every day in training on the Schuylkill River, the women's rowing team passes its Saint Joseph's counterpart, quietly sizing it up. "We're trying to start a rivalry," Penn coach Mike Lane said. "They're great competitors." Last Friday, the Quakers hit the two-kilometer course on the Schuylkill and showed Saint Joseph's what they were made of.

Everyone is in sync on W. Rowing

Its season in tatters, M. Soccer pushes on

The men's soccer team is in need of a break tomorrow, and there'd be no better time to get it than against No. 15 Harvard on the Crimson's home turf. It has been a tough season for the Quakers (5-8-2, 2-3 Ivy), who were shut out in their last two contests against Brown and Princeton and have lost five of their last six.

A must-win, and a probably-won't-win

As the Penn field hockey team prepares for tonight's game against Yale, the same feelings come to mind as did last season: This one is a must win. "This is an Ivy game and it is imperative that we win this one," Quakers coach Val Cloud said. Just like last year, the Quakers (6-7, 2-2 Ivy) enter their game against the Bulldogs in the middle of the Ivy League with a 2-2 record.

Volleyball: Frosh may give much-needed breath of air

Fresh off conquering a mountain, W. Lax now confronts a molehill

The Columbia women's lacrosse team may just be a pebble in the Quakers' shoe. And Saturday's game against the Lions is a small obstacle in Penn's campaign for its first Ivy title since 1982. Though the Lions (3-5) have not proven to be much of an opponent in the past, the Quakers are still starting their usual lineup.
