Nutter's approval rating rises despite concerns about the city

Despite residents’ concerns about the state of the city, Mayor Michael Nutter’s approval rating has improved significantly over the past year.
A poll from The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Philadelphia Research Initiative released today found that 60 percent of Philadelphians approve of Nutter, a rise from 52 percent last year.
But there remain many concerns about the city, especially over crime. The number of residents who consider crime to be a “serious” or “very serious” issue in their neighborhoods increased to 74 percent from 64 percent last year. Support for the recently enacted youth curfew was extremely high, with supporters outnumbering opponents by an 11 to 1 ratio.
Philadelphians remain worried about the future of the city. Last year, respondents were split on whether the city had gotten better or worse over the past five years. This year, 35 percent of respondents said the city has gotten worse and only 23 percent said it has gotten better.
The survey polled 1,600 Philadelphia residents aged 18 and older. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
