A flyer being distributed before the Dershowitz talk

Reproduced below is a flyer being distributed outside the Annenberg Center before tonight’s talk by Alan Dershowitz.

The flyer, apparently printed and distributed by the David Horowitz Freedom Center, compares some Penn professors’ support of the BDS movement to the actions of Nazi Germany.

A recent guest column in The Daily Pennsylvanian by Ruben Gur, a professor in Penn’s departments of Psychiatry, Radiology and Neurology, also compared BDS support to Nazi actions in the 1930s.

Dershowitz’s talk tonight was met with a polarized reaction online.

Horrorwitz Disrespects Holocaust Survivors

The BDS movement is advocating a boycott of ISRAELI, not Jewish, products. There’s a difference between the two, Horowitz ought to know that. Also, there’s a huge difference between those who boycott the products of a state until it meets certain international standards, and those who boycott a race until it is exterminated. BDS aren’t Nazis, David. Your comparison is disrespectful to those who actually suffered under Nazi rule.

First of all there really is no distinction between “Jews” and “Israelis”. More Jews live in Israel than the United States: and soon the absolute majority of Jews in this universe and all possible universes will live in Israel. As for the “evil settlers” of BDS heated delusions— they are about 1 in 24 or 25 of all Jews. Moreover an attack on some Jews is an attack on all Jews for as Theodor Herzl famously wrote, “ We are a People; One People.” Deal with it. As for the disrespecting Holocaust survivors false charge ; the vast majority of survivors now live in Israel ; so again it is a distinction without a difference. Also It is the BDS people who use the now standard anti- Semitic Holocaust reversal , inversion, and minimization and denial rhetoric. Manfred Gerstein wrote a whole book on it available on line. Everyone knows for example Mahmoud Abbas’ doctoral dissertation minimizing the numbers of Jews who died; what few people know is he blamed the Zionists for somehow colluding with the Nazis ; this is called “Holocaust slander.” I have found such vile Holocaust slander at anti-Israel events. The reality is of course that the Palestinian chief leader the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin Al- Husseini met with Hitler, Himmler and was an honorary Colonel in the SS. He went on to raise the Hamsar Brigade of Muslim soldiers who committed atrocities in the Balkans. After the war, Al- Husseini was captured as a Nazi war criminal but allowed to “ escape”. Books have been written about this See “Nazi Palestine”. Real History as opposed to false and hypocritical pieties can be hard to deal with; but its called reality.

If I say that I dislike someone, and that person happens to be Jewish, does that constitute an attack on the Jewish people, and, by your logic, Israel?

What do you call a Jew who happens to not side with the Israeli cause? Treasonous? Blasphemous?

If some Palestinian sympathizers engage in “Holocaust slander,” does that mean they all do, that they are all monsters?

Shall we call all Brits Nazis because King Edward VIII (before he succeeded to and then abdicated the throne) was widely recognized as a Nazi sympathizer?

Is it untrue that approximately six times more Palestinians than Israelis have been killed in the past 11 1/2 years? Do the deaths of Palestinians not count as atrocities and/or tragedies?

Karl is hypocritical. His use of the holocaust as cover for Israeli racism and crimes against humanity is old and tired. It is actually a disservice to those who suffered in he holocaust because it serves to hinder the spread of equality and human rights. If people universally accepted all humans right to free life and self determination, both the holocaust and the Israeli apartheid state would have never existed.

my dear @ Karl, your sophomoric school-yard reasonings do not fool anyone. You deal in vague generalities “ some” does not mean all “all”. Thanks for all the irrelevant vague generalities. First of the Mufti Haj Amin al- Husseini was not a Nazi sympathizer but , unlike Edward VIII was a bona fide Nazi period end of story. He has never been disavowed and indeed is honored to this day as the film Miral showed . Yep that an actor playing the future mufti in the opening scenes. If the the Arabs ever , God forbid, gain control he will be buried with honour on the Temple Mount along with Yasir Arafat. Its true he was barred from the Rhodes Peace conference but that was over the strong objections of the Palestinian Arab delegation. His Cousin Jamal another Nazi who also was in Berlin during the War replaced him.

My real point, which @ Karl , seems to have missed, is the twisted and perverted misuse of the Holocaust to support the Palestinian Arab cause which the Objection to the Horowitz flyer ignores. Holocaust Inversion ( Jews are like Nazis) and related slander is the second most favorite anti-Israel and yes anti-Jewish rhetorical tool. First is their obscene mis-use of International Law and “ human rights “ rhetoric to perversely attack Israel. Another thing is the casualty figures. The Palestinian Arab deaths reflect the fact that they summarily execute fellow Arabs for “ collaboration” with Israel ; without benefit of evidence or trial. That is what constitutes “ Palestinian Justice.” There is awold of difference between the number of israeli deaths caused by terrorism and the number of deaths caused by a sovereign State fighting against that terror and thereby killing Palestinian terrorists and the Arab civilians those terrorists insist on having around them which is awar crime and the fault of the Arab terrorists and not Israel.

As a Jewish-American college student, whose area of study is the Holocaust, I am BEYOND offended and disgusted by this ignorant, idiotic, and blatant exploitation of the Third Reich’s genocide of Europe’s Jewish population. Pathetic. Borderline delusional. I can assure you, there were NO Nazis at the BDS conference. There might be some in the Israeli government though…

My dear “Cute and Angry Jewish Girl” haven’t you learned anything from my tutelage? You obviously have not studied the real history of the Holocaust. Ask your professor about the Mufti and his angry letters to the Nazi leaders demanding the deaths of Jewish children in Hungary and Romania lest they come to Mandatory Palestine. Ask him or her about the Struma sunk in the Black Sea because no one wanted the Jewish escapees from the Nazi death camps to reach the only haven who wanted them the Yishuv(the Jewish community of Mandatory Palestine). Because of Arab objections and British racism ( and in gross violation of the Mandate Treaty ) Hundreds of thousands of Jews who could have been saved were cruelly and needlessly made to die at the hands of the Nazi butchers. Afterthe war the surviving Jews STILL were not allowed to get to Mandatory Palestine; but had to get there “illegally” that’s what the famous Exodus ship episode was all about. Please see the film. What I’m trying to say is that it is the Arab side who distorts the Holocaust NOT the Jews. Connecting Israelis to Nazis is Just sick. If you really are Jewish you should be ashamed of yourself. No card-carrying Nazi party members needed to go to the BDS hate-fest; allthe Horowitz Center flyer is saying is that boycotting Jews or Israel or Jews in Israel is reminiscent of the Nazi era. Knee-jerk reactions about Holocaust exploitation is simply a false piety. By the way a lot of real WWII Nazis escaped to the Middle-East especially to Egypt where some Nazi rocket scientists helped Nasser develop weapons against Israel. Some went to Syria to train the Syrians in police brutality and torture techniques and interrogation methods. Learn some real history not the pap and anti-Semitic garbage you seemed to have picked up somewhere.

I want to make a correction. The book I was referring to above is titled The Abuse Of Holocaust Memory : Distortion and Responses by Manfred Gerstenfeld . Use it to classify and correct people like Rand.
