MidAtlantic Restaurant & Tap Room — located at the University City Science Center on 37th and Market streets — will permanently close its doors on Feb. 24.
The restaurant opened in fall 2009 as the Science Center’s first full-service restaurant. It is owned by Daniel Stern Restaurants, which also owns R2L in Center City. UCSC and Wexford Science & Technology are the restaurant’s developing partners.
The reason for the restaurant’s closing is still unknown. A manager of the restaurant declined to comment.
According to a statement, Daniel Stern Restaurants “[is] actively helping [Wexford and the Science Center] seek a replacement operator for the project.”
Located on the periphery of Penn’s campus, MidAtlantic was not a restaurant many students frequented.
“It’s a little past my Penn rectangle,” College freshman David Spivak said
UCSC is looking to replace it with another restaurant, according to Vice President of Marketing Communications Jeanne Mell. While it was not the most popular among the Penn community, it was “very popular with the residents of the Science Center,” she said.
“We’re keeping our options open,” Mell said, referring to filling the vacancy. “We’re going to look forward to continuing to provide a quality dining experience on our campus.”
