The Quad won this year’s first fall Power Down Challenge by reducing its total electricity consumption by 20.42 percent.
The competition, which ran from Nov. 1 to 20, was an effort by the Green Campus Partnership and Eco-Reps to encourage students to reduce their electricity use.
Both the Green Campus Partnership and Facilities and Real Estate Services were pleased with the outcome.
Julian Goresko, Sustainability Student Outreach Associate for the Green Campus Partnership, informed the College House leaders that he was pleasantly surprised with the level of interest the Power Down Challenge generated among students.
Hill and Gregory College Houses came in second and third place respectively. Both college houses reduced their total electricity use by over 10 percent. Several other houses also saw significant reductions.
The college houses saved a total of 61,090 kilowatts of energy in the challenge, the equivalent of 42.1 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
