Heavyweight captain Piero Russo and commodore Nicholas Barnes earned the McCausland Cup beating George Washington in the Varsity Eight race.
After a three-year drought, the Quakers beat George Washington Saturday on the Potomac River and took back the McCausland Cup.
The Varsity Eight cruised to a seven-second victory on the 2,000-meter course with a time of 5:40.3.
Penn also took the second Varsity Eights and second Freshman Eights, falling only in the first Freshman Eights by just 0.8 seconds.
In the second Varsity Eights, both of Penn’s competing boats finished before George Washington.
This article has been updated from its original version to correct the subheadline, which mentioned George Mason instead of George Washington, and to correctly identify the Freshman Eight boats.

There's no Novice 8 in men's rowing. There is a first freshman 8, which is the race you mentioned, and a second freshman 8 which won their race by 9 seconds 6:05.4 to GW's 6:14.8.
You also reference the second varsity eight race. Penn's third varsity eight raced in the second varsity race because GW could not field a third varsity eight, it was not another Penn second varsity eight boat.
Also, the current tile references George Mason. This race was against George Washington.
