The Penn men’s swimming team defeated both Yale and Dartmouth on Saturday, in a tri-meet held in New Haven, Conn.

The Quakers downed the Bulldogs, 153-147, and kept the Big Green at bay, 177-123.

In the 400-yard free relay, the final event of the day, the Quakers team of junior Peter Amos, senior Michael Tompkins, freshman Paul Maneri and freshman Rhoads Worster was able to come in first by .75 seconds, just barely ahead of the Bulldogs.

The victory in the relay clinched the meet for the Red and Blue, giving the team its third win at New Haven in a century, according to coach Mike Schnur.

“It’s great to win any meet like that,” Schnur said. “And any time you win a meet in the last relay, it’s just really exciting and the guys are fired up, and it makes it twice as special when it’s up at Yale.”

After a slow start to the season, the Quakers are now undefeated in the New Year and confident as the season progresses toward the Ivy Championships in early March.
