Students are celebrating the cancellation of classes due to snow — for the second day in a row.

Penn had a snow day on Wednesday for the first time in seven years. Before Wednesday, the most recent snow-related University closings were in February 2003 and January 2000.

There have not been two consecutive snow days at Penn since 1994.

Although normal operations are suspended, “essential personnel” are still required to be on campus, Executive Vice President Craig Carnaroli said in a statement.

Cancellation decisions are made jointly between the Executive Vice President, the Provost’s Office and the Division of Public Safety.

As of midnight, Princeton University and Columbia University planned to remain open.

Drexel University, Temple University, George Washington University and Bryn Mawr College announced closings for Thursday, according to the schools’ websites.
