Students began scanning the campus for letters at 10 this morning, hoping to discover the first of three Spring Fling concert artists.

By 1 p.m., it was confirmed that Kid Cudi will be one of two opening performers at Fling this year, as students found all seven letters on banners in various locations on campus.

The Social Planning and Events Concerts Committee introduced the unprecedented scavenger hunt revelation this year.

“We decided we wanted to do something more creative, unique, to get the word out there better,” said College sophomore and SPEC Concerts Co-Director Jordan Sale.

The first student who sent in each letter to 34th Street Magazine’s blog, Under the Button, will receive a wristband to enter the floor level at Fling for free.

“It should be a fun way to get the Spring Fling hype going a little earlier then usual,” College junior and Under the Button Managing Editor Hillary Reinsberg said.

Before the first letter was revealed, College sophomore Janet Sung said the plan "sounds cool but I don't think I can participate — I have a full day of classes and work."

Others wanted to find out through a single announcement rather than a scavenger hunt.

"I would prefer just waiting till a specific day and know the entire name at once," Engineering sophomore Kathleen Llontop said.

“Honestly, I think it's kinda stupid and I wish they would just tell us up front. First off, who has the time to put in that much effort. Second, how easy would it be to mess with the system and put up fake letters in different places? And it’s a lot of effort for something that shouldn’t take that much effort,” College sophomore Grace Wang said.

Still, many were excited at guessing who the performer would be.

"It's an awesome idea, so much more fun than in the past," said College sophomore Julianne Mele. "I'm going to guess it's Ke$ha because I heard that it should be easy to figure it out after three letters, but I'm really not sure."
