The University was recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as one of the country's top 25 companies, universities and municipalities that have found creative ways to run on renewable power.

Ranked at No. 19, Penn was the only university to make the list.

Rankings were determined based on the amount and percentage of green killowatts per hour used.

"We at Penn are proud to be included among the most forward-thinking organizations committed to reducing their carbon footprint," Penn President Amy Gutmann said in a press release.

Penn's sustainability efforts include green-roof installation, recycling projects and energy monitoring of college houses and individual rooms, according to Dan Garofalo, Penn's sustainability coordinator. The University also has a 10-year renewable energy credit contract with Community Energy.

Love seeing new types of industries/businesses/etc getting involved in the green movement! Even banking is beginning to think of the environment, with banks like e3bank (a client of mine) offering a triple-bottom-line... incentivizing people to install eco-friendly features to their homes for better interest rates.
