Offensive coordinator Bill Schmitz will not return for a third season with the Penn football team.
The Athletic Department announced in a statement this afternoon that Schmitz's contract will not be renewed for 2009.
"We appreciate his efforts during the last two years, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors," head coach Al Bagnoli said in the statement.
The Quakers finished the year fourth in the Ivy League in scoring offense (19 points per game) and fifth in total offense (310.4 yards per game). In 2007, the team averaged 23.1 points and 343.4 yards per game.
Schmitz came to Penn from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where he was the tight ends and wide receivers coach.
Prior to his stint at UAB, he was most recently the head coach of Jesuit High School in Florida (2003-04), Austin Peay (1997-02) and his alma mater, the Coast Guard Academy (1993-96).
