Chelsea Clinton visits campus

Like any daughter, Chelsea Clinton doesn't always agree with her mother.

But none of those differences in opinion came up yesterday, when hundreds of Penn students gathered on Wynn Commons to hear the former first daughter speak about the presidential campaign of her mother, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

"There are issues I disagree with my mother on," Chelsea Clinton said. "But those are for my kitchen table."

In light of the results from Tuesday's primaries in Ohio and Texas, Chelsea Clinton's visit to Penn comes at a crucial point in her mother's campaign - particularly since the fate of the Democratic nomination hinges on the outcome of the Pennsylvania primary next month.

Chelsea Clinton began with general remarks about her mother's candidacy. She then fielded questions from audience members.

Though she was asked about a wide range of issues, Chelsea Clinton focused largely on Hillary Clinton's preparedness for the presidency, as well as major issues like health care and foreign policy.

When asked about the Bush-Clinton monopoly on the presidency over the past 20 years, she said, "You shouldn't vote for or against my mother because of my father."

Chelsea Clinton also received questions about her mother's close race with Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and whether she thought superdelegates would determine the nomination. She stressed that the Democratic primaries are far from over, and thus the issue of superdelegates is still premature.

"There are still a lot of states that have to vote," she said. "We're in one right now."

She mentioned the issue of Florida, a state that her mother won but that currently has no pledged delegates at the Democratic National Convention this August, because the state held its primary earlier than party rules allowed.

Chelsea Clinton said her mother would fight to seat the delegates, but the chances of this are up in the air.

"I have no more insight than you do," she said to her audience.

Students who attended the event said they were impressed.

Even though College junior Oscar Benitez is an Obama supporter, he said he thought Chelsea Clinton was "very well spoken and answered questions sincerely."

Penn for Hillary spokesman and College freshman Patrick Bauer said the Clintons will be "all over Pennsylvania" in the coming weeks and that yesterday's event reflects the campaign's "commitment to young voters."

Speaking of Chelsea Clinton: There is bad news about her father. It is opined that Bill Clinton committed racist hate crimes, and I am not free to say anything further about it.
The Clinton Dynasty! continues Chelsea like Hilary and Billy has the same arrogance, the Divine Right to Rule. In a recent London interview she informed readers that she would be the second female President after Hilary. Will Chelsea if she reaches the race in years to come use the same tactics of Hilary, Lies, Scare Mongering and Nasty Personal Attacks, all for the sake of Greed and Power! Back to the current race, I have always said that Hilary will have to be dragged from the nomination list screeching and screaming. Even after the premature Victory Party in Ohio even with confetti in the truth and light of the next day Hilary is still well behind in the Delegate Count, no wonder the Republicans and John McCain are laughing, the money and time that is being wasted and in the case of Hilary how she will destroy the party in 2008 just for her own interest! Now it up to the Pennsylvania voters on the 22nd April, a majority of us are sick and tired of the politics of the past, the old boy network and dynasty, we want CHANGE! - I HOPE that the Voters will think wisely and send a message to the Grandees of the Party they must bring this to an end now and go with the mandate of Voters.
It doesn't seem likely that Obama will bring much change when he and Hillary vote together 94% of the time (source: factcheck.org). Obama's a good guy and might make a good president, but Obama supporters should be realistic about how much change and progress his presidency would actually engender.

I am a Libertarian who voted for George Bush twice. I never thought I would consider voting for a Democratic candidate for that office, but I would vote for Barack Obama if he is the nominee. 1) I strongly disagree with his policies, but I also believe that he will do a better job of uniting this country in a way that John McCain and Hillary could never do. 2) Obama will also improve the standing of the U.S. in the world better than McCain or Clinton. Our international reputation is hurting us terribly and it will take a long time to restore. I am terrified of the prospect of President Hillary Clinton. She will divide this country more than it already is and that is not the path this country needs to go down. I am begging everyone in PA to go to the polls on April 22 and vote for Barack Obama. What's more, for you Democrats out there who want nothing more than to capture the White House, you should remember that there are many more people like me- independents and moderate Republicans who would vote for Obama, but who will show up in droves to support John McCain if it's between him and Hillary Clinton. As a last point, it is pretty sad to watch the combination of the elitist system of "super delegates" and the Florida/Michigan mess beging to boil into an absolutely catastrophic situation for the Democratic party. This cannot end well. If the economy were strong and we were in a time of peace, I would be rejoicing at watching the Democratic party become exposed as the elitist group that it is, but it isn't so I'm not. [Too F. Funny, give me a break with your complaint about the use of the middle initial. Class warfare based on the way someone displays their own name? Can't you come up with something substantive or is this really what you think is worthwhile?]

Bush 00 & 04, With all due respect, your argument for voting for Barack Obama is one of the weakest I've ever heard. You disagree with his policies, yet you think someone who hasn't even served one term in the Senate, represented an incredibly liberal area of Chicago in the Illinois State Senate and voted like one (when he wasn't skipping votes), and speaks in abstractions and utopian cliches can "unite the country and improve our standing in the world." Come on! He's the most liberal member of the Senate, according to the National Journal, will do everything to expand government's role in daily life, and will cripple our national defense. If you're a libertarian, you should be appalled by the man. We need someone who has actually dedicated his life to this country, John McCain! Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are opportunistic liberals who parade themselves as dedicated public servants. Please, they're Ivy League graduates, have lived very comfortable and isolated lives, and have no concept of what the average American goes through every day. John McCain knows foreign policy and our military better than anyone, has led this country on key foreign policy issues, and has fought to reduce government and bureaucratic waste at home. He can unite this country better than anyone because of his proven record of bipartisanship. Senator Lieberman, an independent Democrat, even endorsed him. If that's not bipartisanship, I don't know what is. McCain knows the world and the threats we face and will defeat the jihadists, thus preserving and sustaining the values that have made this country and our world great. It's an easy choice. John McCain in '08!
Are you kidding me? First of all, what proof has Obama given us that he will be more successful in uniting the country? Just because he reached across party lines on some legislature in liberal Illinois doesn't mean that he will once President (besides he hasn't shown any more interest in reaching out to the other side than Hillary and especially McCain). Obama as uniter is just buying into an image his campaign has created and the lovey-dovey media has furthered. Secondly, so our international reputation is struggling; big deal. How does this hurt me as a typical American? Sure I would love to be liked by others, but that doesn't mean that I want to jeopardize my security or my well being just to be liked. This argument is the weakest from the Obama clan, our international reputation doesn't affect any of us dramatically at all. Last comment: can you list any large, bi-partisan legislative accomplishments of his? To be a president of change, a candidate needs to show some, any examples of political leadership which supports this claim.

John and Sean, I realize that my position may seem absurd to those on the Right but the reality is, for me, this election has very little to do with policy and a lot to do with avoiding our country's current descent into bitter divisiveness. As objectionable as his policies are, I truly think Barack Obama is the only who Ã?gets itÃ? when it comes to this issue. There is no doubt that Obama (and Hillary) is a big government liberal, but George Bush has spent like a big government liberal for seven years. Where was the restraint? This country is not a monarchy and the election of Barack Obama would not be a mandate to tax and spend. I have faith in our countryÃ?s checks and balances system and the balance of power. WhatÃ?s more, the Republicans have still not convinced me of our need to be in Iraq. If anything, most often I feel that our presence in Iraq is the very thing that puts us in danger- not what provides for our safety. Ã?How does our struggling international reputation hurt the average AmericanÃ?? Well, for starters, it fuels the fire of the extremists who would kill us if they could and encourages those who do not currently hate America to sympathize with those who do and, possibly, become extremists themselves. Lastly, as long as I have tried to stay loyal to the Republican party (due to my fiscal conservatism), I have simply grown tired of co-existing with the wing of the party that supports moralistic legislation. As much as I wish the Left would stay out of our wallets, I also wish the Right would stay out of our lives.

The fact that our reputation is so terrible directly affects our security. Terrorism is a greater threat today than it was 8 years ago because today the common Muslims feelings toward America allow anti-American sentiments to flourish. Secondly, the fact that our reputation is terrible means that a large portion of the world doesn't like us. They don't like us because we have wronged them, and, just to be blunt, they are people too. A recent survey showed that we are the least popular country in the world, with less popularity than Iran, China, Venezuela, or Sudan.

Perhaps YOU may have been better off with a halfway decent education. Privste school didn't teach you not to capitalize every noun in your sentences? You didn't learn proper grammer, syntax, and advanced vocabulary? No wonder you feel that we are all as badly off as you are. You view the country as a reflection of yourself? Ad hominem, yes. Needless, absolutely.

John B - Your own arrogance shines through by the inclusion of your pompous middle intial in a blog. Hillary must be a pretty good candidate if you have to attack her husband and daughter! I'm sure Mike Huckabee appreciates your vote.

Weird, she makes faces like her mother when she speaks, but her voice sounds like her father's.
