Hundreds of Harvard students congregated in Harvard Yard Monday in a mass show of support for undocumented immigrants, The Crimson reported this afternoon.
Chanting, “Say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here,” the group of about 200 students marched from the steps of Widener Library to University Hall to deliver the petition started by the students of Spanish 126.
According to the Crimson, the petition — which has collected more than 4,000 signatures — calls for the a hiring of a new Assistant Dean of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as well as the establishment of a support office for undocumented students.
For the 40 undocumented students at Harvard, the unexpected victory of now president-elect Donald Trump has proved concerning.
But for many, Trump’s rhetoric goes far beyond politics. Bruno Villegas, a Harvard sophomore, told the Crimson, “This isn’t a political issue, it’s a human issue.”
