Steiner’s new position is effective July 1, President Amy Gutmann and Provost Vincent Price announced. Currently, he is the dean of the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture. Steiner is also a PennDesign alumnus, with two master’s degrees and a doctorate in city and regional planning. Steiner has also brought his specialty in architecture, landscape architecture and built environmental studies to University of Colorado at Denver, Washington State University and Arizona State University and has even taught at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has also written, edited or co-edited 17 books in his area.
“I am excited and honored to return to Penn as dean of PennDesign,” Steiner said in a press release. “This is an exciting time for students, scholars and practitioners in architecture, city and regional planning, preservation, landscape architecture and the fine arts.”
Current dean of PennDesign Marilyn Jordan Taylor is stepping down after serving as dean since 2008.
