Samantha Power, earlier announced as Penn’s Commencement speaker, will also deliver the keynote address at Barnard's 2015 graduation.
Barnard’s Commencement will take place on May 17 (the day before Penn’s) at Madison Square Garden in New York. Power currently serves as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations and is a Pulitzer-prize winning author. Barnard President Debora L. Spar said in an email to students that Power’ “experiences and insights will sure inspire our graduates.” Power will also be given the Barnard Medal of Distinction, the university’s highest award.
Other colleges nationwide have announced their Commencement speakers as well. William and Mary announced that Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State under George W. Bush, would speak at the school’s graduation. Bush himself will speak at Southern Methodist's Commencement exercises on May 16th. Wake Forest announced that popular political satirist Stephen Colbert will deliver the keynote address at the school's Commencement.
