Neither the men’s nor women’s squash teams will have far to travel for their road matchups Wednesday evening, needing only to make the short trip down 33rd Street to take on Drexel.
It will be the first-ever meeting for both the men’s and women’s programs with the Dragons, who are in just their second year of Division I varsity competition.
The No. 9 men (1-1) enter their match at the Kline and Specter Squash Courts following a split weekend to open the season. The Quakers defeated Bates, 5-4, in their opener before falling to George Washington by the same score later that day.
The Drexel men (1-2) have played three 9-0 decisions on the season — a win over Connecticut College and two shutout losses to Franklin & Marshall and No. 1 Princeton.
The Penn women (2-0), ranked No. 5 in the nation, dominated in their first two matchups of the year, taking down Bates and George Washington by 9-0 scores.
Against the Drexel women (1-2), the Quakers will face a team which, similarly to the men, also recorded its only win against Connecticut College.
The women’s match will start at 5 p.m., and the men will follow immediately after, tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m.
It will be the third of four road contests to open the season for both the men and women. The men travel to Williamstown, Mass., on Friday to take on Williams before their home opener against Navy on Dec. 6. The women will also be at Williams before opening at the Ringe Courts on Jan. 12 against Harvard.
