Wharton senior Kyle Ambrogi, a running back for Penn's football team, passed away last night. He was just 21 years old. University spokeswoman Lori Doyle confirmed reports that the cause of death was a suicide. "Kyle was a remarkable young man, a true scholar-athlete, an ambassador for Penn, a tremendous teammate and leader on and off the field, as well as a caring and outstanding brother," Penn football coach Al Bagnoli said in a written statement. "His loss will be felt for a long time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time." Ambrogi scored two touchdowns in Penn's win over Bucknell on Saturday as he rushed for 18 yards on five carries. His brother, Wharton sophomore Greg Ambrogi, who also plays for Penn, recovered a fumble in the end zone, giving the Ambrogi family three touchdowns on the day. In his junior season, Kyle ran for 231 yards on 64 carries, taking the ball into the end zone two times. The athletic department and the University are working with support services at Penn including the Office of the Chaplain, the Vice Provost for University Life and Counseling and Psychological Services to help console those affected by Ambrogi's death. Funeral arrangements have not been set at this time.
